Thomas J. Chirillo

April 24, 1946 — September 8, 2023

Evergreen Park

Thomas Chirillo passed away September 8, 2023, after a grueling year+ post stroke recovery. It seemed like he was dealt another hurdle at every turn. Although devastated by this loss, his family is relieved for him to no longer be suffering.

Tom is survived by his two children Thomas (Gina) Chirillo and Traci (David) LeBlanc as well as  his three grandchildren: Lily, Autumn, and Seth.

He leaves behind his two sisters Joyce Tiemann and Judy Hogan and in-laws that were like true siblings Kathleen and Gary Martel and Patricia and Peter Glikis and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Evelyn and Thomas Chirillo, sister Beverly Welsh, his big brothers Gerald, Robert, Jimmy, and Richard Welsh, as well as the true love of his life - his wife Sarah Chirillo.

In his youth, Tom was a hellion. He was well known in the neighborhood shooting pool and riding his Harley. He attended Evergreen Park High School then tested for the air force. His scores were off the charts and he was heavily recruited, although he ultimately followed his brother’s footsteps into the dental field.

In his early twenties, he met his future wife, Sarah. She would encompass his whole world. For over fifty years, their tumultuous relationship was one in which they loved fiercely. Parenting two children and marrying twice, the love between them would overcome every obstacle.

His children were his pride and joy.  Nothing made him prouder than his son excelling in the same field as him. Even bad work days were good days because he could talk them over with his son. His daughter would give him further purpose when she made him a grandpa. He loved  being a “papa” and telling everyone who would listen all about his grandkids. Tom was a true talker and talked to everyone like he had known them for years.

In his older age, Thomas softened. It was not uncommon for him to pay other's bills, work and not charge, or send excessive monthly donations to children's hospitals. Thomas did not live a life of excess but constantly did for those around him. To know Tom, especially in those later years, was to love him.

Services to celebrate Tom’s life will take place at St. Bernadette Church 9343 South Francisco, Evergreen Park on Friday September 15, 2023. Visitation at Church 10:00-11:00 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00; Interment Holy Sepulcher Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements by Kosary Funeral Home.
