Susan Marie Volk
Susan M. Volk was born on October 11, 1952, in Milwaukee, WI, on her father’s birthday. Two weeks later, she was baptized at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, where she attended school for ten years, and where her father was the first principal. She attended Milwaukee Lutheran High School, Concordia Teachers College– River Forest, and Trenton State College, where she earned the Masters in Education degree. She taught in Lutheran schools for 37 years, in Philadelphia, PA; Oak Lawn, Chicago, Bensenville, and Hinsdale. Following her mother’s passion, Sue focused on early childhood. In Oak Lawn, she met her husband, William Volk. They were married on April 7, 1990. This marriage was blessed with two children: Chelsea and Julia.
Her favorite activities were church activities, being with family, singing, and playing the cello, of which the best memories were playing at Orchestra Hall, and performing as a trio with her mother on the piano, and her sister, Carol, on the violin.
Sue passed away peacefully at home on December 4, 2023.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Margaret Dobberfuhl, her brother-in-law, Robert Mueller, and great-nephew, Aiden Mueller.
