Hertha Sneideraitis nee Gott, a resident of Orland Park, IL since 1977; passed away on August 13, 2024. Hertha was born, baptized, and confirmed in Heisede, Germany. She was the youngest of three girls born to Auguste and Albert Gott. Hertha attended the Wilhelm Raabe Gymnasium for Girls in Hanover, Germany. In 1954 she immigrated with her mother to the United States and lived with her sister, in Rosa’s household until her marriage in 1956 to Otto Sneideraitis, who preceded her in death. Their marriage was blessed with two children; a son Raymond who passed away in 2002 and a daughter Christine who passed away in 2011. Hertha became a U.S. citizen in 1964. She and her family lived on the Southwest side of Chicago until 1977, at which time they moved to Orland Park. Hertha was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oak Lawn since 1956. She worked for 25 years as a supervisor of the cash office at Carson Pirie Scott & Co. in Chicago. Her death is mourned by grandsons; Michael (wife Kristen), Erich (fiancée Kayla), and Jeffrey; her sister of Ilsa Hattenkerl in Germany, her daughter-in-law Christina, nephew Frank (wife Georgette) and their children, as well as other relatives and friends. Hertha cultivated many friendships with people of diverse backgrounds. Some of them she knew all her life; some she met later in life. She had a good sense of humor, was an avid reader, especially poetry. Hertha had a wide collection of books; some she had read many times. During tragic times in her life, she expressed her feelings by writing poems. She was a “political junkie” always ready for a discussion or debate. She watched round table programs on TV and she even volunteered for different campaigns when she was younger. Hertha loved doing word searches and attended discussion groups and seminars to keep her mind sharp. She never stopped learning and being curious. Last but not least, Hertha found comfort in reading and studying the word of God. So who was Hertha? A daughter, sister, wife, mother, Oma, Tante (Aunt), friend-Yes, All That. But most importantly, she was and is a child of God-saved by Grace.
