James (Jim) Hickey died peacefully on January 23. Jim was born and raised in the Cummermore, Kilcommon, Co. Tipperary farmland and bog where he perfected his infectious laugh in a household of like-minded siblings. Raised in a home where faith and God led him in his thoughts and actions, he hung his rosary beads at the door and used them in times of joy, solace...daily. His desire to learn led him to Hollyford School and his Sylda. And a note from the States ultimately led him to Chicago where he worked diligently to build his home, his family, and trust in those he came to know. Predeceased by, and now reunited with, his devoted wife Sylda (Crowe). Loving father of Laura (Neil) Drohan, Lynn (Michael) Ciuchta, Paul (Michael Fustin) Hickey and Alan (Livia Mategrano) Hickey. Cherished grandfather to Maeve (Ashton) Wischmeier, Colin Drohan, and Madison Hickey. Great-grandfather to Eamon and Quinn Wischmeier. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Vitas Hospice. Visitation Tuesday January 26, 2021; 9:00 am to 10:45 am; at Kosary Funeral Home 9837 S. Kedzie, Evergreen Park; Funeral same day; 10:45 am from chapel to Queen of Martyrs Church for Mass of Christian Burial 11:30 am; Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery 708-499-3223 or KosaryFuneralHome.com

Deepest sympathy to Laura,Lynn,Alan and Paul and their respective families on the death of your beloved dad Jim. He was a gentleman and it was always a pleasure to meet him. Dear Paul and family,
Please accept my most sincere condolences on the passing of your father. He was always such a pleasant man. Many was the time he came over and shoveled our sidewalk. I know my father was very fond of him. Losing a parent is very difficult but he is now at peace and certainly in a better place. God bless.

My condolences to the Hickey family for the passing of your wonderful loving father and grandfather. He always seemed to have a big smile on his face in pictures and when Hank and I were fortunate to have gone to Chicago to meet him. He lived a good long life under the care of his Sylda and then his children. You may feel an emptiness in your heart but he is there with Sylda watching over all of you. Blessings to all of you.
With love Evie Ciuchta

I was so sad to learn that we have lost Jim. I will always remember his kindness, and I really enjoyed the years that we worked together at Abitibi. He truly was a gem.
