Barbara J. Stender, 77, went home to be with the Lord on December 3, 2020, after battling multiple myeloma for over 3 years. She was surrounded by her loving family in her home and the presence of the Lord who now sings over her. The prayers and sincere love expressed by her family members and friends, both old and new, gave her the hope and blessed assurance that she would see them again.
She served the purposes of God for her family, church and community as an art teacher, ESL educator and an active member of Maranatha Chapel and the Gideons.
Barbara married William Stender on August 1, 1964 in Chicago, IL. Together they raised their five children.  From the very beginning, they dedicated their children to God and depended on Him for guidance in raising them throughout their lives.
Barbara is survived by her husband, William; her children, Jeff, Amy (Mark) Rupsch, Anna (Jerauld) Rekow, Eric (Christine) and Curt (Emily); her 13 grandchildren, Ethan, Rebekah, Joshua, Corbin, Haven, Silas, Winnie, Abigail, Elijah, Caleb, Bethany, Riley, Jaxon; and her brother, Warren (Lorraine) Bloom of Chicago, IL. She is preceded in death by her parents Walter and Florence Bloom.
Barbara will be buried at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL. There will be a public visitation on Monday, December 7 at Kosary Funeral Home in Evergreen Park, IL from 4-8pm and a private family service at Maranatha Chapel, Evergreen Park, IL, on Tuesday, December 8 with Reverend Doug Banks officiating. Memorials can be given to Gideons International, P.O. Box 677, Palos Heights, IL 60463. Prayers, condolences and memories are gladly accepted at

As the oldest son Jeff I wanted to be the first to say how much my mother loved me and how much I loved her. The last time I was able to speak to her in person she smiled and waved goodbye to me and said “I will see you again” Today she walks on the streets of Heaven rejoicing. I am so BLESSED to have such great parents and brothers and sisters . I love you mom. You are now home.

My beloved Stenders... there just are no words for this. My heart grieves for you, my heart rejoices for Barb. I couldn’t have made it trough my early years as a Christian, a mom, as a teacher. She was so special, so extraordinary so loved. My prayers will be with you all in the coming year of firsts without her. I know this journey and it is hard. Bill, I can’t imagine your journey... extra prayers, extra love.

To Bill and family. You and Barb were one of the first to welcomed us into the Maranatha family many years ago and we have loved you both since then. Barb was always about God's business and loving others into the kingdom and into serving. Barb so loved the Lord and her family. Please know that George and I will be lifting up the family in prayer as you celebrate her earthly life and celebrate her arrival into eternity as " well done, thy good and faithful servant. Much love
